It’s almost here!

Goodness GRACIOUS, I did not even realize how tough this last few days leading up to my competition were going to be!

I’m telling you…it’s crazy.

My diet plan became much more strict in the last week (read: next to no starchy carbs) which has left me in a brain fog! Plus I’ve been trying to get a ton of stuff done at work so I can take time off with a clear conscience, and I’ve been squeezing in even longer workouts into my already packed schedule. Good news is: we’re almost there. At this point, I’m really just excited to get this weekend on a roll! Enough of this preparation, already!! 🙂

So, what exactly have I been doing, you ask?

1. BEDAZZLING

I’ll be wearing two outfits on stage: my bikini and my “sportswear” outfit, which is basically like a teeny tiny Halloween costume. My costume is a “Kentucky Derby” jockey theme. Both outfits need lots of “bling” so I’ll sparkle on stage. Here are all the goodies:

I bought “hotfix” Swarovski crystals for my bikini, plus a cheaper version of these for my hat:

Here’s a nice shot of the bikini sans bling – check out those removable pads for the top, LOL! Don’t think I’ll be wearing those 😉

So I wanted my hat to look like a cute jockey hat (even though in reality it’s just a plain black baseball cap that I bought dirt cheap on Amazon). I laid out all my supplies:

And marked where I wanted the sparkles with a white eyeliner:

Then I blinged away! Plus added a pink ribbon around the brim:

I thought it would be cute to add a bow where the adjustable part is on the back too – voila!

So, that was a fun project. You’ll get to see how the bikini turned out in my competition pics 😉

What else have I been up to??

2. MEAL PREP

I staged a MASSIVE meal prep for the next couple of days’ worth of food.

Believe it or not, I’m not even done with my food prep! I still need to pick up some more chicken and make a big giant batch of asparagus tomorrow.

For the next couple of days, my meals have no salt or seasonings and I’ll be drinking less water. Obviously, I’m also consuming large quantities of protein as well. (gag me with a chicken breast – I’m considering going vegetarian for a while after this, LOL)

Ok, and finally, I’ve been:

3. WORKING OUT!

I completed my final workout today before the competition, aptly named “the final shower.” It’s called this because you’re showering yourself in sweat and tears, baby. And it’s no joke. I’m pretty sure that someone had 911 on speed dial at the gym tonight, ready to call an ambulance for me at any moment. Torturous, but it felt great.

So that’s my life in a nutshell over the last couple of days. I have a TON of stuff to do tomorrow before leaving on Friday for Connecticut. I will be blogging along the way – this is a once in a lifetime experience for me and I want to make sure to capture everything!

Sunday Savage Session and posing update

Eek!  Less than 2 weeks out until the show!

Without a doubt, one of the best parts of this experience has been connecting with “Savage sisters” who have similar goals and interests.  What an amazing, smart, talented group of ladies.  I mean, seriously – these women are top-notch.  And so welcoming and kind and not ever the least bit catty – love them!

So today I joined a few of these women for a “Sunday Savage Session,” which included an hour long workout and then an hour of posing practice at the end.  The workout was great!  And the posing?  Well, let’s just say I still have a lot to learn (um, yeah, in 2 weeks).

I’m posting a quick video here of my walk and posing practice from today, and should mention:

1)  the video is super shaky – sorry
2)  yes, I realize I’m prancing about in my sports bra.  I mean really, I’ve already posted pics on this blog of me in my bikini — clearly, I have no shame 😉

In other news, I’m feeling a wee bit overwhelmed about Monday looming right around the corner.  Didn’t get all my “to dos” done, and I’m behind with work stuff.  Plus I’m feeling like my house is a mess and I need another weekend to put a dent in everything I feel like I need to accomplish right now.

A day in the life {vlog}

Hey friends!

Thanks so much for your encouraging words on yesterday’s post.  Seriously, my heart is just so full of encouragement from you, and I thank you!

Did anyone see this week’s episode of The Biggest Loser?  I haven’t really kept up with the series this season (mostly due to that Conda chickie and her nasty ‘tude), but I did happen to catch it the other night.  Bob decided to have one of the contestants, Megan, keep a video diary so she could hold herself accountable and keep track of all her hard work.

Well, what a great idea, I thought!  So I decided to keep a video diary of my day yesterday to keep track of my nutrition and workout for the day.  This exercise helped me realize two things:

1.  My voice.is.obnoxious.  Sorry, y’all!  😉

2.  My days are pretty boring.

HA!  But if you find it interesting to see what I eat and how I work out for a day, check it out below!

Less than 5 weeks to go!

It’s less than 5 weeks until my first competition at Ms. Bikini New England.  How am I feeling?  Well, to say that I am going through a lot of emotions is an understatement.

I’ve experienced both ends of the spectrum of emotions about this – everything from self doubt to excitement to straight-up fear.  Like it or not, April 28th will be here in the blink of an eye.  Will I be ready?  Will I fall on stage?  WHAT THE HELL WAS I THINKING?!?

The Good:

1.  I’m finally seeing results after all these weeks!  Seeing results is addictive – I want to work harder to see even more results.

2.  I feel great!  My energy is high, I’m sleeping great, and it’s doing my body good to nourish it with so many clean eats.

3.  It’s been amazing to connect with such an inspirational group of women during this process.  I am so thankful for Cathy Savage Fitness and feel lucky to be involved with such an amazing team.

The Bad:

1.  Weird food behavior – I have never had any issues with eating, other than doing too much of it 😉  But I find myself having a couple of great “on” days as far as nutrition, and then backsliding and eating WAY TOO much for a day.  Two steps forward, one step back.  What the hell??  It’s like I’m sabotaging myself.

2.  This is a lonely sport.  My  husband and I joke about my days right now:  wake up, work out, eat, work, eat, work, eat, work, eat, work out, eat, shower, sleep, repeat.  Yep, that pretty much sums it up.  Every day.  And it’s tough because I’m doing this alone…I feel like I’m spending so much time by myself, either eating or at the gym or whatever!  Strange…Plus, I love to cook and entertain and have friends over, and that’s totally stopped since I started my training.  It’s just too tough to resist temptations, so I find it easier to be alone with my chicken and broccoli than to be with others 😉

3.  The anxiety that is coming along with doing this for the first time is so hard for me to wrap my brain around.  I have NO idea what this experience is going to be like.  This is both exciting and terrifying to me.

 

So, the good news is that I don’t think I’m at all alone in my insecurities.  I guess the “5 weeks out” point is when all the self-doubt starts creeping in for others as well!  In fact, two of my Savage sisters have done an amazing job at summing up exactly what I’m feeling.

The first is the gorgeous Stephanie Keenan, who I met up with a few weeks ago for posing practice.  This post was so motivating to me – I can be ready in 5 weeks!

The second is Melissa at Curly Girl Fit Life, who wrote an amazing post about what’s motivating her for the next 5 weeks.

Both of these blogs have helped give me the motivation to put on my big girl panties and keep pushing on…I’m excited to see what the next 5 weeks will bring!

So I’m definitely a little less “fluffy” and have more definition in my arms / legs.
